Focus/Pilot Groups Evaluations

Evaluations of Co Louth VEC and Newry Womens Aid Groups

Co Louth VEC - 13 December 2004

1.    Liked

I liked the cross border focus group at the VEC because what I learned was creative.   I liked the teacher.

I liked playing with the materials and using my imagination.

Interaction and learning with students

Presentation

I liked the art work

Yes, I liked what we used in the work shop, different material and the presentation

I loved the zip.  I think it could represent anything or any aspect of life.
I liked the idea and the thinking behind it (The modelling).

Using my hand, feeling the material.

The texture of the materials.

The atmosphere was pleasant and friendly.

2.    Better

I think perhaps it may be difficult for people to talk about their model – they might not have a reason for making it.

Go into communicating.

Room.

The room could be better.

More discussion on what people made.

Should get paid.  More time.  Day session people friendly.

Two hours was not enough time.  I believe a day would have been better to talk with each other.

A little more structure.

I would like more time to think of a story before I started to model.

Perhaps the facilities/room could have been better.

3.      Learned

People expressing themselves in a different way.

Something about how I feel about my position at the moment.

I learned I could make something meaningful from scraps of fabric.

I feel I am a more confident learner and I think my model reflected that.

Different things people made.

The creativity of the group was very good.  Self expression using art is good.

Learned to communicate.

How to make something to express myself instead of talking all talking.

I learned how to put words into pictures.

Learned how to communicate and express myself more.

Art can be good for you.

Newry Women’ s Aid Group - 11 February 2005

1.  What I Liked

It brought honesty out in people, enjoy displaying the scene, enjoyed listening
to people about their art.

Interaction with rest of group.  Freedom and Warm Atmosphere

Expressing one’s self, through Art.

I liked the interpretation of the art that each of us have done.  Different types of art were very interesting.

I liked the sun atmosphere with everyone.

I liked how relaxed the two of you were and how you made me relaxed.  You made a potentially daunting exercise relaxed and fun.

It made me feel child like again.

2.  What could be better

More time, more information on results

More time to talk and listen about the sculptures.  We would have had a
long discussion develop i.e. authority, colour, influence of USA

Maybe more time

More time

To be better, I’d like the session to be longer like 4 hours, it was fun

More time to do and reflect

More time to study the pieces of art and try another piece

The class longer, more discussion

3.  What I Learned

We all have hold ups about life.  We all have problems.
We use colour and aspects to reflect on our lives.

Learning about ‘me’ can be fun and does not end.

How the mind works

I have learned that there are things in my life that maybe affect me more
than I thought.

I need to take time out for me.

A different way to express your self.

I’ve learned how to communicate through Art.

I learned about what is optional and thoughts of my peers.  I enjoyed
listening to others.  I learned that perhaps I would have talked more
on a personal level.
