Literacy & Equality through Alternative Methodologies
Slieve Russell Hotel, Co Cavan
13th and 14th June 2005
What I Learned
Awareness of students’ equality issues, creative methods in learning, tutoring and organizing
New methodologies especially storytelling and drama
Image theatre ideas, story making and story telling ideas, fun games
That there are many possibilities and methods when it comes to learning
Interactive, participative fun
Some interactive methodologies
Story ideas, icebreakers, that this was not all for me, can be creative
Variety of methodologies
How to develop story-telling techniques
Narrative ideas, how to recycle
What image theatre is, and how I might use it in practice
Diversity also relates to methodologies in learning
What could be better
One person to refuse to participate as demonstrated
Not enough time on some e.g. drama, start late on first day (journey)
Relevance, students’ opinions, ‘real experience’
Image theatre not clearly directed
More time for Jo’s drama session
No men for male reaction and opinion
More time
Maybe more ideas about how to apply the teaching
Too much to take in in too short a time
More explanation around Image theatre, not enough time or too much put into drama workshop
Drama too mixed up
More in-depth demonstration, particularly in image theatre and the directing of it.
What I liked
The attitude (fun but enthusiastic) of everybody
Storytelling marvelous
Drama, Zipper workshop, stretching boundaries
Loved the storytelling session
The sharing and exploring of new knowledge and discovering ways of integrating this into practice
Liked the facilitators, very enthusiastic
Liked different subjects, the other participants are a very friendly group
The group, the venue
Zipper workshop, storytelling, the group, the venue
Working within a group and learning lots of ideas and opinions
Finding new literacy tools, the person as a resource, storytelling, relaxed approach, time to reflect
Storytelling, interesting, relevant, enjoyable, useful
