Literacy & Creativity through Alternative Methodologies
Tuesday 17 May & Tuesday 24 May 2005
Evaluations by participants
What I Liked
I liked all the physical activities
Food was excellent
Looking at new ways to promote learning
Taking part in the practical sessions – lets you know how learners feel
I liked some of the games – the easy attitude of the facilitator
Refreshments, friendly approach of tutors, active exercises
Meeting new people
I liked the concept; at least it made me think about non-verbal strategies
Interactive physical games
Discussion about status
Food, networking, exchanging ideas
Ideas how to ‘open’ learners to more creative work
People very friendly and open
Informal nature of session
Facilitators were great
Lots to think about
What I Learned
How to develop the 3 skills, narrative, status, spontaneity
How to make literacy more creative, interesting and (hopefully) effective for my learners
I learned about energy distribution and physicalisation
Some new ‘introductions’ fro lessons which I will use to stimulate and motivate my learners
New ideas to be more creative and more from the ‘visual’
Learned new games that I’ll try
How much power different games may have over learners
Stimulating ways to get my students actively participating in class
Good ideas for group work
Ice breaker, ways of learning about people/personalities without asking direct questions
What Could Have Been Better
I got up at 5.45 this morning and read the chapter of 44 pages. Why did I need to do this?
Leave active exercises to afternoon
Perhaps short break (5mins) in am session
Some handouts with ideas, games we could take home and use
More contextualised examples specifically for literacy teaching
